GOODBYE SUMMER, HELLO FALL
As we approach the unofficial end of summer, there are still many things to do and attractions to visit in our own backyard. We have brought you the next installment of local treasures that you may not have thought to visit. Enjoy Fall Festivals and the waning days of our outdoor concerts and shows. We have a featured non-profit, a featured adoptable pet, and a new online bulletin board to facilitate private pet adoptions. In addition, let's remember the 12th anniversary of 9/11; consider participating in a commemorative 9/11 event.
This issue is sponsored by Sesame Place, where you can celebrate being a kid, or being a kid again! Spend Labor Day weekend with everyone's favorite Sesame Street friends. On Sept 1, experience the park's "C... is for Celebrate!" fireworks show, set to Sesame Street music. Rock out with Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster and Count von Count as their music fills the air and the sky is covered with colorful bursts of brilliance. Sesame Place also has an exciting line-up of fall concerts. Super Why Live! kicks off the fun on September 7-8 followed by Yo Gabba Gabba's DJ Lance Rock & Friends who perform on September 14-15 and finally Caillou's Musical Playdate runs September 21-22. Reservations are available now.

FEATURED NON-PROFIT: QUILTS FOR KIDS |
|
We recently found out about a wonderful local charity, Quilts for Kids, that is turning tears into smiles. Volunteers transform scraps of fabric into patchwork quilts that comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse. Because of allergens, children often cannot bring their stuffed animals to hospitals. However, most hospitals welcome these washable, all-cotton quilts. Make a difference in the lives of these children by participating in a walk to benefit Quilt for Kids on Sept 28th at Shady Brook Farms in Yardley, PA. You can join a team, start one of your own, and take the family to spend the day at the farm. |
5 MORE LOCAL TREASURES YOU MAY NOT HAVE THOUGHT TO VISIT |

The Red Mill in Clinton, NJ was built in 1810 for wool processing, and is now celebrating its 50th anniversary as a museum. The 10-acre site also includes the Mulligan Quarry and other historic buildings.
America on Wheels Museum in Allentown, PA displays over 75 bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles and trucks in exhibits showing people and products on the move from antique carriages to the vehicles of tomorrow.
The Hunterdon County Arboretum contains approximately 20,000 square feet of display gardens. It is a great place for kids to run around, go up into the treehouse, and enjoy many special kid's exhibits.
Take a guided walking tour through Lost River Caverns in Hellertown, PA containing impressive crystal formations. There is also a museum containing rare fossils, unique minerals, gem stones, antiquities, and more. |

REMEMBERING 9/11 |
|
We are fast approaching the 12 year anniversary of 9/11. To commemorate this day and to honor those who lost their lives, BucksCountyAlive.com has compiled a list of events that are occurring in our region. If you know of a 9/11 event that we do not have on our list, please let us know. |
NEW FEATURE: PET ADOPTION FROM LOCAL RESIDENTS |
|
Sometimes the pets we love can no longer live with us - maybe it is allergies, the birth of a child, or the need to move to a place that does not welcome furry friends. Whatever the reason, BucksCountyAlive.com wants to help you find a good home for your pet. We have created an online bulletin board where you can post a photo and description of the pet that you can no longer keep. Hopefully, this bulletin board will help you find a new family to love your pet. |
FEATURED ADOPTABLE SHELTER PET |
|
Meet Boots, an extra large (more to love) domestic short hair in need of a permanent home. He is a super-friendly 9 year old that is neutered, up to date on all shots, and micro-chipped. He adores the company of humans, but does not enjoy all cats. To arrange a meeting with this big boy, call the Animal Lifeline Thrift Store at 215-343-5050 or visit them at 1111 Easton Rd, Warrington Pavilion Shopping Center (215-343-5050). Check out our Pet Adoption Directory to find more animals in need of your help. |
OUTDOOR CONCERTS, MOVIES, AND SHOWS |
|
What better way to enjoy the last days of summer than to attend an outdoor concert, movie or show. We have gathered quite a collection for you to choose from. Take your folding chair and prepare to be relaxed. |
TASTE THE DIFFERENCE - LOCAL FOOD FROM LOCAL PEOPLE |
|
Many of our communities sponsor Farmers Markets - a place to buy produce, prepared food, baked treats and more. It is an experience you can share with your family and friends. Include a trip to the market in your weekend shopping plans. |

You don't need to go to New York City to enjoy live theater. We have an impressive selection right here in the burbs. |
